Measmer Takes Win Number Six at Concord
RE/Denny's #14 Team Sets Record for Wins
Bobby Measmer, Jr. and the Hughes Motorsports team put together a remarkable season in 2009, culminating with win number-six on their rookie season in the NASCAR Pro Late Model division at Concord Speedway on October 17th.  Next up for Hughes Motorsports is the Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model event at Five Flags Speedway (FL) on December 5th.
Underdog Role Motivates Hughes Motorsports Towards Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway
Concord Speedway Regulars Set to Invade Pensacola
The Allen Turner Snowflake 100 event at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on December 5th has an entry list chock full of series champions, former Snowflake winners and even NASCAR stars such as Kyle Busch among its nearly 70 entrants.  Bobby Measmer, Jr. won a division-high six races with his Hughes Motorsports #14 Chevy at North Carolina’s Concord Speedway against some tough competition, but nothing like the star-studded field that will fill the Five Flags Speedway pit area for the Snowflake 100.

Measmer and the Denny’s Restaurants-backed Hughes Motorsports team may be considered underdogs for the Snowflake 100, but they are using that as motivation to spark a strong showing in the most prestigious Pro Late Model race in the country.

“Our goal number one is to make the show,” said Measmer, a former track champion in the Late Model division at Concord Speedway.  “If we
can make the show and finish in the top-15, then that’s going to be like winning for us.  Still, in my mindset as a racer, I want to go down there to win.  We want to do that, but at the same time, we want to have fun and just make the show.  If we do that, our number-one goal will be met and we’ll just see what happens from there.

“We’re going down there just to have fun and just see what happens.   If we just make the race, we’ve done something as a little man from Concord going to run against the big dogs.”

The trip to Pensacola is the team owner Kevin Hughes’ way of thanking his hard-working crew and driver for their efforts in 2009.

Our plan for the year was to reward ourselves with a trip to Pensacola if we had a successful season,” said Hughes.  “Both I and Bobby have always wanted to give it a try, so we are heading south for the big race.  Our first objective is just to qualify. There will be the best of the best down there, and it should give us a good idea on how we stack up.  I am pretty confident that we will be competitive, but we are not going to put too much pressure on ourselves.”

Measmer fell just a few points short of the 2009 Concord Speedway NASCAR Pro Late Model championship due to missing one race because of the re-scheduling of a rained-out event on the off-weekend when he was getting married.  Still, the Hughes team accomplished feats at Concord that no other team was able to, including their six victories in the Pro Late Model division and a number of poles to make the 2009 season a success.  The team hopes to parlay that success at Concord about a seven-hour-drive South to Pensacola for the Snowflake 100.

“We took on the CRA guys at home two weeks ago in the North-South Shootout with our crate motor against their big motors and saw how we stacked up against some tough competition,” added Measmer.  “We came out of there with a top-10 finish, but this time we’ll be on an even playing field down there in the Snowflake 100.  We’re just going down there and taking our chances trying to be the underdog.  Hopefully we’ll just build on what we’ve been doing all season long.”

Hughes Motorsports has formed a partnership with SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner’s BDI Racing team for the Snowflake 100, as well.  Hughes Motorsports team owner Kevin Hughes is the Team Services Manager for Racing Electronics and has formed a business relationship and a friendship with Dillner at the NASCAR tracks and the short tracks of the Southeast.  BDI Racing will be providing pit crew and more support for the Hughes #14 Snowflake entry and Racing Electronics will adorn the BDI Racing #51 Chevy in the Snowball Derby Super Late Model race on December 6th with driver Bobby Gill.

Denny’s Restaurants have furthered their support of the Hughes Motorsports team in the Snowflake 100, as well.  The Denny’s location at Concord Mills in Concord, North Carolina backed the Hughes outfit for much of the 2009 season and the support continues as the Pensacola-area Denny’s locations have partnered with Hughes Motorsports for the Snowflake 100, giving not only the #14 team, but every racer and fan a great place to grab a bite before and after the racing at Five Flags Speedway on Snowflake and Snowball weekend.
